The Regent’s Park, NW1 4LL, (Frieze London is located at the south end of Regent’s Park; Frieze Masters is situated at Chester Road, NW1 4HA, near the northeast corner).
About & Heritage
Frieze was founded in 1991 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover with the launch of Frieze magazine, a seminal publication for contemporary art and culture. In October 2003, Sharp and Slotover expanded their vision into a physical space with the launch of the inaugural Frieze London art fair in Regent’s Park. Designed to counter the traditional, rigid art fair format, Frieze brought a dynamic, forward-looking energy that focused exclusively on contemporary living artists. In 2012, the organization launched its sibling fair, Frieze Masters, which bridges the ancient and modern world by featuring works created before the year 2000. Together, the two fairs anchor “Frieze Week,” transforming London into the global focal point of the international art market every autumn. The mission of Frieze is to provide a world-class platform for leading international galleries, foster emerging artistic talent, and cultivate a deep, critical engagement with contemporary practice. Rather than acting merely as a commercial marketplace, Frieze integrates nonprofit initiatives, curated performance programs, public talks, and museum-quality installations. The fair is celebrated for its iconic bespoke tent structures, architectural innovation, and its ability to gather top-tier collectors, curators, and cultural enthusiasts from across the globe, driving the economic and creative pulse of the art world.
- Note : Frieze operates an international network of premier art expositions including Frieze New York, Frieze Los Angeles, and Frieze Seoul.
