Mohammed VI Museum of Art (MMVI)
Rabat
About & Heritage
Inaugurated in October 2014 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) stands as Morocco’s first public institution dedicated entirely to modern and contemporary artistic creation. Located in the administrative heart of Rabat, the museum was conceived to meet international museographic standards and anchor the nation’s capital as a preeminent cultural destination. Designed by architect Karim Chakor, the building’s striking architecture elegantly bridges traditional Moroccan aesthetic elements with sleek, contemporary structural design. The museum’s primary mission is to collect, safeguard, study, and showcase over two decades of visual culture, preserving a rich permanent inventory of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations by pioneering Moroccan masters as well as international luminaries. Beyond its permanent halls, MMVI acts as a dynamic cultural hub by hosting landmark international blockbusters and historical retrospectives, fostering arts education, and celebrating the vibrant evolution of North African modernism on the global stage.
- Note : Full name : Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) - Operated under the National Foundation of Museums (FNM) in the Kingdom of Morocco.
