The Renaissance (meaning “rebirth”) represents one of the most monumental eras in cultural history, marking the transition from the Middle Ages to modernity. Unlike the Italian obsession with geometry and classical antiquity, Northern masters focused intensely on empirical observation, domestic realism, and an unmatched, microscopic level of surface detail made possible by their early perfection of oil painting.
